Silouette Art

We used Autumn & Winter sunsets as inspiration for our Silhouette Art.  We first created a colour wash background using a palette of oranges/reds and purples and then we painted on our black silhouettes.  We think they turned out really well!

Thursday 24 November 2016

In conjunction with Ballyhaunis Community School, 5th and 6th class will be participating in the 'Peer 4 Peer' programme, as part of the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum. The programme is delivered in four modules: 1. Communication Skills, 2. Friendship, 3. Decision Making - including mobile and internet safety and  4. Misuse and abuse of Alcohol and Smoking.
Each module will be taught over approx. one hour per week for four weeks, and began yesterday, November 23rd with a very enjoyable session on Communication Skills.
The programme also offers the pupils an opportunity to meet with students that they can see as role models for themselves and may very possibly identify readily with as they make their transition to post primary school.

Congratulations to 5th class students Vanessa Whelan and Alice Curran who have won prizes in The Kenny Naughton Writing Competition.  Vanessa won first place in the 11 and over poetry category while Alice won third place in the 11 and over short story competition.  Well done to all our students for taking part and congratulations Alice and Vanessa!
Today we went on a lovely field trip to the Michael Davitt Museum in Straide, Co.Mayo.  We had an excellent tour guide called Paddy who showed us lots of interesting artifacts- he even let us hold a rifle! We also visited the grave of Michael Davitt and the Abbey attached to the museum. We really enjoyed our trip and learned even more fascinating facts about Michael Davitt.

Maths Week

We have been enjoying Maths Week in the senior room.  We have all logged onto MangaHigh everyday to work on our Maths skills.  This afternoon we really enjoyed working with  the Chinese puzzle tangrams!

History Projects

We have been learning all about the Land League and the Land War in History.  In pairs, we worked on projects with topics including The Land League, Michael Davitt and the Ladies Land League.  We really enjoyed working on our projects and are looking forward to our field trip to the Michael Davitt Museum next week!
